Communications

Per this news article, communications is lacking for emergency services. I've been a ham radio operator, who has had a repeater on Mt. Hamilton for over a decade, my experiences can help with solutions. One system was very interesting on Mt. Vaca which worked excellent for the Sacramento area. It was a voting system. The coverage was up in the northern valley down south, including up the Sierra Nevada and into Fairfield. There were several receivers with one transmitter on Mt. Vaca. This system was designed and set up by ham radio operators. Worked very well. Repeaters in proper locations can do well for communications. Why there was no solution sought after is unknown.

We need someone who can help with solutions that does not break the bank. In fact, calling on my fellow ham radio operators, they know the territory well. There can be systems set up with remote links, voting systems, or repeaters that can be linked. I've done it with my repeater where I linked it to another repeater, and linked across to communicate from the Bay Area down to Los Angeles.

Key is trying to solve issues with less money, smaller government. In this example above, this is not complicated. Amateur radio has created technologies that we use today. The invention of packet radio in 1978 allowed digital packets of data sent via radio waves. Technology is there and it's not that expensive.
