A worker told me once a quote that I will never forget. It was that powerful, that once he said it, I've never forgotten the phrase.
No poor man ever gave me a job.
We need to do better. People with money, start businesses. When Sacramento saw dollar signs. The people who started Google, each would have paid about $60 billion of their own earned money. They moved. They are gone and the jobs went with them. So was the salary of people who would have gone out to local businesses. One had 15 companies, another had 45 companies they started. Those companies employed Californians. Those people paid taxes, they paid for products, they paid property taxes, they paid for going out to restaurants. They paid for entertainment. There is a lot more than meets the eye. However, Sacramento saw only dollar signs.
We need to protect all citizens, no matter how successful they are. The progressive tax even taxes higher to people who work in high tech as well as pay higher cost of living. Punishing people because they are successful is not helping our area nor our state. It has helped other states unfortunately.
Bottom line, everyone can pay their fair share of taxes. Don't punish those who are successful. There are other states that welcome successful people. And we are losing them.
This is a very important topic that encompasses safety to our community, and helping those to legally immigrate to the United States. The lines have been blurred. Legal immigration is not the same as someone who is called a migrant. Let's stop with the argument, and come with solutions.
Solution for farmers: They want labor for the fields. People, for example, in Mexico want to come up here for work. Visa's can be issued for the season of the crop(s) to not only help the farmers, but also for the workers who can come up to work. This would be a win-win for both.
Solution for immigrants: If people want to immigrate to the United States, there are ways to apply for a visa. This is the solution, which is already in place. Leaders in power should help direct people to legal ways to apply.
I'll use an example. I want to purchase a candy bar that cost $1. The person behind me is Elon Musk. His cost is $100 for the same candy bar. This is not how businesses operate. Sell a product for a price. It is up to the person if they want to purchase or not.
So for health care (not insurance), a solution of getting costs back down for care. It should not cost $1k for changing sheets and pillow for example. Again, current health care is a blank check from the US Govt. When government steps in, costs have skyrocketed. Government is not in the business to provide health care. Businesses have done a great job on their own.
Finding problems is by listening to the people of our district. Ensuring we include everyone. There is no divide or special privilidges based on any means. Meeting with the communities and understanding not all communities are alike. Santa Cruz is very different than El Paso de Robles. Many times, laws or regulations do not help in a positive way. One has to be careful to ensure with positive leadership and the attitude to find solutions for our district.
